Tafero (Tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF)) is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) and a new projection of the antiretroviral ether tenofovir. After oral administration, TAF is converted in vivo to tenofovir, an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate (nucleotide) analog of adenosine monophosphate. Tenofovir mimics the usual structural blocks of DNA, but it lacks the OH molecule necessary to bind the phosphodiester bond.
